Bing Mobile for Windows phones has been updated once again, and the most significant change is turn-by-turn voice navigation. This will not work on all Windows phones (optimally I’ll bet it works best on the HTC HD2, which has a digital compass as well as a 1GHz processor). As seen in this screenshot when I installed it on my Touch Pro2, I was informed that certain features might not work 100%.
I gave it a quick test this morning, and it was impressively accurate. Note: this screenshot was taken before I got in the car. Once driving, the next turn/instructions will appear full-screen along with the voice guidance.
This is very exciting, because Google has made voice-guided navigation available to Android users for a while now (requires Android 2.1). It’s great to see Google & Microsoft push each other in the features contained in their map products. We as consumers end up the winners!
If you have Bing installed already, you can upgrade from the menu. Otherwise, go to m.bing.com/download.
