Neither Sprint nor Verizon to carry Windows Phone 7 in 2010
Neither Sprint nor Verizon will have any Windows Phone 7 devices in 2010, and there’s still no solid ETA of when they’ll have them in 2011:
According to an interview with CNet with senior product manager Greg Sullivan:
We had to make some trade-offs,…Even Microsoft doesn’t have unlimited resources. We had to prioritize doing fewer things, really, really well.
For the worldwide market, the vast majority of phones are GSM phones, so we focused on GSM first and then plan to deliver an update that will have great CDMA support in the first half of 2011. That’s device availability in the first half and we’re very confident of that. That’s probably a conservative estimate.”
All the while, millions of iPhones, Android phones, Blackberries and the like are being purchased by users whose contracts are up, thereby taking them out of the game for another two years. I am confident the WP7 devices will be good devices, but Microsoft is missing out with each passing day/week/month. Perhaps they shouldn’t have wasted such time on that Kin crap…!
